Wayne Rooney stepping out of his Mercedes
Manchester United captain is injured and will be out for around six weeks. But before feeling sorry for him, know that he will not be sitting around pining over his misfortune since he probably would be out having fun enjoying his humongous earnings.
Talking about earnings, did you know that Rooney is the highest paid player in Manchester Unitd? The former Everton wonderkid earns 250,000 pounds per week, £50 more than that of Chelsea’s highest paid player, Eden Hazard. But that is not all he makes. The English man also makes a lot from other football-related, off-the-pitch deals. So, how does he make his money and how does he spend it?
Rooney’s immediate earning comes from his N125m (£250k) -a-week salary after agreeing a N52bn £104m) contract with the management of Manchester United which runs until 2019. This puts his annual salary at N10.6bn (£21.7m). Rooney also makes at least N160m ($4 million) a year in endorsements with companies such as Nike, Samsung, and Harper Collins.
Rooney previously had endorsements with a number of companies, including Coca Cola, a partnership that ended in 2010. And was on the cover of EA Sports FIFA soccer video-game franchise seven times, a streak that ended in 2013. He also has an ongoing deal with publishers, HarperCollins which is according to BusinessInsider.com reportedly worth $8.4 million and one of the biggest sports book deals ever.
And how does he spend? Rooney likes to live it up with his cash. He and his wife have a $7.5 million mansion specially built for them in the village of Prestbury, near many other English celebrities on what is considered the most expensive road in North England. Apart from this, Rooney also has a $530,000 apartment in Florida and an $8.4 million villa in Barbados.
Having talked about the houses, now the cars. Rooney has quite an extensive car collection and has been spotted driving some of them like a Mini Cooper, an Audi RS6 and a Bentley Continental. But he also has an Astin Martin Vanquish, a Lamborghini Gallardo and of course, a Mercedes Benz.
If there is something else Rooney loves as much as he does football, it is horse racing. This indeed is one extravagance the striker likes to readily indulge in apart from his cars. He owns three racehorses which he grooms for races.
